Connecting to your ground receiver
- Power on the ground receiver first — it needs a few seconds to initialize.
- Power on the model's beacon and wait for a GPS fix (this can take 1–5 minutes outdoors with a clear sky).
- Open AeroTraceGPS and tap CONNECT.
- The model appears on the map as soon as the first position frame is received.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| App says "Bluetooth off" | Bluetooth is disabled on the phone | Enable Bluetooth in iOS Settings, then reopen the app |
| Tapping Connect does nothing | Ground receiver not powered on or out of range | Check the receiver is on and within a few metres of your phone |
| No model appears on the map | Beacon hasn't acquired a GPS fix yet | Wait outdoors with a clear sky view; first fix can take several minutes |
| Connection keeps dropping | Out of Bluetooth range, or app was backed out to the home screen | Keep the app open and the receiver within range — AeroTraceGPS reconnects automatically when it can |
AeroTraceGPS does not work in the iOS Simulator — Bluetooth LE requires a
physical iPhone. If you're testing on a simulator, the map will load but
"Connect" won't find any device, which is expected.
Requirements
- iPhone with iOS 17 or later
- Bluetooth LE enabled
- Location access (used to show your position on the map and calculate distance to the model)
- A compatible ground receiver broadcasting position telemetry
